Benjamin's vocabulary has just taken off like I knew it would, in spite of my impatience. Nathan and I crack up over his pronunciation or version of certain words. Of course I have to write them down for posterity!
Fire engine= "woo-woo"
Elmo="Mo-mo"
Weston & Wyatt= "Westie & Wy"
Sadie="Say-say"
Grandma="Mee-maw"
Grandpa="Papa"
Cereal="cecil"
Cat="meow"
Snack="nack"
Happy Birthday="happy happy"
Blankie="bankie"
Spoon="poon"
Frog="ricky" (I think he is trying to say "ribbit" here)
Turtle="toto"
He loves to say "Hi" and "Bye" to fellow shoppers and while we are driving down the road he must point out every semi-truck, tractor, RV, garbage truck, and bus that he sees (and he doesn't miss much). When he calls out his latest observation, you must respond verbatim or he will keep repeating himself like a broken record. For example, if he see's a bus, he will yell out "A bus! Mommy, a bus!" I have to reply with the question, "You saw a bus?" to which he responds with an "Uh-huh" and then he continues his search for more large and interesting vehicles.
Just today he used a new phrase that enchanted me. We were searching for a particular book to read at naptime and once he found it he exclaimed "All right!" I say it a lot to him (such as when he spots a bus!) and it was hilarious to hear him use the same phrase, especially in the right context. It was a little like the moment last week when he expressed sadness over a character crying on a television show I was watching. I heard him start whimpering during the emotional scene and I had to give him a hug and reassure him that it was okay. I guess reality t.v. is actually real to him! :)
He's learning fast, that's for sure. It's such a joy to watch him grow and learn. I look forward to each day with him so I can see what he will soak up next!
